Hong Kong Pools – Where to Cool Off This Summer

The tell-tale signs of summer in Hong Kong are already in full swing: crowded beaches, dripping air-con units and an almost unbearable humidity. But you can escape the heat with a swim at one of these hotel pools. From infinity pools overlooking Victoria Harbour to a water zone for kids, here’s where to dip your toes in style this season. And don’t forget to earn bonus Asia Miles when you book with Cathay.

Swimming in a city as densely packed as Hong Kong is not always easy, and the public pool system can be quite overcrowded at peak times. Nevertheless, there are many options if you are willing to travel outside the city centre to find one that can cater to your needs and suit your budget. In addition to the 22 municipal pools run by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, you can also enjoy free entry to all the outdoor pool complexes operated by the HK Pools Association. The association is the umbrella organisation for all private pools in Hong Kong and runs a number of community centres that offer indoor and outdoor swimming facilities.

The association also manages a network of outdoor pools in the New Territories. However, it is worth noting that the opening dates of these outdoor pools are dependent on weather conditions and may be subject to change. Moreover, the association does not provide emergency lifeguard services.

If you are looking for a more luxurious pool experience, the W Hong Kong’s stunning 76th floor rooftop pool is one of the most popular spots in the city. The infinity pool almost creates the feeling of swimming in the famous Victoria Harbour and is framed by a beautiful mosaic wall, making it the perfect place to snap a summer selfie. There are also loungers and a bar where you can enjoy some refreshing cocktails and craft beer.

Another option is the Ritz Carlton’s pool, which is positioned on the 118th floor of the International Commerce Center. Floor-to-ceiling windows and a high-resolution LED wall showcase images of tropical fish, bubbles, clouds and beach scenes. It is also among the world’s highest rooftop pools and has a mirrored ceiling, which gives it an extra splash of glamour. However, the pool is not for the faint of heart. An annual wellness membership is available at HK$55,000 per person and includes access to the swimming pool, steam and jacuzzi facilities and the gym.
