The list of singapore prize covers a wide range of awards, prizes and medals including cups, trophies, bowls, badges and state decorations awarded in Singapore. The award winners are chosen by the expert panel of judges. The winner of each category receives a cash prize and is honoured with a trophy designed by leading local artist.
The prize is open to all Singapore citizens and permanent residents of any nationality, whether amateur or professional, who have published a work which meets the criteria. A new translation category has also been introduced, enabling the prize to be awarded to authors who have written in a language other than English.
Professor Miksic is the first author to win the prize since it was launched in 2014 as part of SG50 celebrations, marking Singapore’s 50th anniversary as an independent nation. The prize seeks to broaden the definition of what constitutes history by inviting writings on various perspectives and themes pertaining to Singapore’s past, from both established and new writers.
Other 2023 winners include The Cleaning Company (Walking Fish Productions & GoodThing Productions, SBS Australia; Australia) for best doc series, and ONI: Thunder God’s Tale (Megalis, Tonko House, Netflix; Japan) for best animated program or series. The glitzy ceremony at the theatre at MediaCorp was hosted by actors Hannah Waddingham and Sterling K Brown, and featured bands Bastille and One Republic. The Prince of Wales announced the winners in a speech at the event, which was attended by Singapore ministers and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who is a trustee of the Earthshot Prize board.
He wore a 10-year-old dark green blazer from Alexander McQueen, and the other presenters followed suit with outfits that were either recycled or from sustainable fashion labels. To further support the sustainability theme, the award ceremony was held at MediaCorp’s theater, and attendees walked along a “green carpet.”
The 71-year-old actor took to the water in Singapore for a morning of dragon boating with athletes from British Dragons club on the Kallang River, as he began his week-long visit to Asia. He donned a life vest and paddled alongside the crew in pairs, rowing vigorously to the steady beat of a drummer at the bow.
The President’s Science and Technology Awards (PSTA) is Singapore’s highest recognition of scientists and engineers who push the boundaries of research excellence and innovation, both in Singapore and globally. It was originally established as the National Science and Technology Awards in 1987, and elevated to Presidential status in 2009. The PSTA is the highest level of accolade awarded by the Singapore Government for scientific excellence. The PSTA honours outstanding scientists and researchers through three distinct categories – the President’s Science and Technology Medal, the President’s Technology Award and the Young Scientist Award. The Young Scientist Award is the only one of its kind in the world. In addition, the PSTA also recognises teams and organisations that have achieved extraordinary impact through their innovation and implementation of groundbreaking scientific discoveries in the form of commercial, societal or humanitarian applications.
